Do You Need An Expert Data Storage Professional

Data Storage at the Enterprise level gets very expensive when you have to hire a vendors Professional Service Group for all the work. You can save a very large chunk of money if you contract out some of those services such Architect/Design and Implementation services. It’s not always rocket science that some folks want you to believe, but it very detailed oriented and it really does take an experienced person designing and architecting your SAN or planning a large data migration.

How much can you save? It all depends but on the average for an Enterprise SAN you can save about $500.00 to $1000.00 a day compared to what the Vendors will charge you. Look at what you are being charged per hour. On the average you are paying the ‘big boys’ close to $450.00 an hour for SAN Design. You can save some serious money and not cut corners.

My rates are very reasonable, but what I won’t do is work for $35.00 an hour on a 1099 and pick up my own expenses unless I can do all of the work from my office. Travel is going to cost you what my exact travel expenses are. If I have to go out of town my rate will go up. My rate will be competitive but I am not about to do it for free or some ridiculously low rate that some headhunters have asked me about this year. FACT: Enterprise Storage cost $MONEY. The bottom line is that we won’t put you in the poor house to protect your most valuable asset… Your Data.

Data Storage Architect Rates

Choose from four different pricing options:

* Negotiated Fixed Fee – based upon a mutually agreed value of the results to your business; a 5% discount is offered for full payment upfront; travel and materials are usually included. As an example, a three week engagement to design, document, oversee the implementation of a new DR strategy or SAN usually runs anywhere from $8,000-15,000 (USD) depending on required time on-site (up to 1 week), travel distances, and so on.

* Performance Based – similar to the fixed fee option, but billed out at 80% of the normal rate; you determine the remaining 20% payment based on your level of satisfaction with our work

* Time & Materials – the non-referral rate for ON-SITE work is $500-1200 per day, plus travel expenses; this breaks down to approximately $62.50-$150 per hour on-site. REMOTE work is $50-$90 per hour for non-referral rates. Remember: hourly rates are the most expensive

* Retainer Basis – based upon a mutually agreed-upon list of value to your business; my normal retainer rate is $1,000-2,500 per month for a minimum of 3 months and covers up to 25 hours of work per month; any required travel is reimbursable
